    Agentic AI Core

    Zoom describes AI Companion 3.0 as built on four core agentic skills: reasoning, memory, task action, and orchestration. These skills empower the system to:

    • Understand user context (projects, priorities, prior conversations)
    • Retrieve internal (meeting transcripts, shared documents) and external information (web, enterprise databases) in a unified, context-aware way
    • Execute multi-step tasks (e.g. scheduling, document creation, task updates) with minimal direction
    • Orchestrate between different agents, modules, and external systems to coordinate work across apps

    Practical capabilities announced include:

    • “Free up my time”: the AI analyzes your calendar, participants’ roles, and priorities to suggest meetings you may skip but still remain informed about.
    • Meeting preparation: surfacing agenda items, prior action items, relevant background before a meeting begins
    • Autonomous meeting participation / note-taking: even on non-Zoom platforms or in person, AI Companion can join, transcribe, and extract action items and summaries.
    • Unified, context-aware search: pulling together content from Zoom, third-party apps, file systems, and external sources to answer queries in situ
    • Writing, summarization, and document generation: drafting emails, meeting summaries, or other documents with context from the workflow

    These enhancements reflect Zoom’s intention to shift from “assistant that reacts” to “agent that initiates and assists” in daily work tasks.

    Cross-Platform & Third-Party Integration

    One of the standout parts of the announcement is that Zoom’s AI is not limited to its own meetings:

    • AI Companion 3.0 is designed to support note-taking and AI functions even when meetings happen on Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and (in future) WebEx and in-person settings.
    • The Custom AI Companion add-on allows organizations to extend AI Companion’s functionality across meeting platforms, customize summary templates, and define avatar behavior.
    • Zoom AI Companion now connects with 16 third-party apps (e.g. Jira, Asana, ServiceNow, Box) so the AI can orchestrate tasks across workflows without the user needing to switch context.
    • Via these integrations, the AI can, for example, post updates to project tools, handle ticketing workflows, update documents, or fetch files during meeting contexts.

    This cross-platform and cross-application approach allows the AI to become a connective layer over the digital workspace rather than just a Zoom-bound helper.

    AI Avatars & Virtual Presence

    To support presence even when a user cannot or does not wish to be on camera, Zoom is introducing AI avatars:

    • The avatars are intended to be photorealistic / lifelike, capable of mimicking user expressions and presence.
    • They can be used in Zoom Clips, waiting rooms (e.g. to greet participants), and asynchronous video messaging.
    • Users with the Custom AI Companion add-on can create custom avatars tuned to their style.
    • The rollout for photorealistic avatars is expected around December 2025.

    Deployment, Pricing, and Rollout

    Zoom has laid out a staged rollout:

    • The core capabilities of AI Companion 3.0 will not incur extra cost beyond existing Zoom Workplace paid subscriptions.
    • The Custom AI Companion add-on (for extended cross-platform, avatar customization, and advanced templates) is priced around US $12 per user per month.
    • Many features are slated to go live toward November–December 2025.

    Thus, many foundational agentic features will reach users by late 2025.

    Zoom’s vision is ambitious, and there are significant challenges:

    1. Privacy, data security, and trust
      The AI requires broad access—meeting transcripts, document systems, calendars, third-party apps. Managing permissions, data governance, auditability, and user trust is critical.
    2. Accuracy, hallucination, and error risks
      Agentic AI taking action increases the cost of mistakes. If the AI mis-schedules, mis-summarizes, or performs an incorrect action, user trust may erode.
